Royal Engineers Museum

Discover the bravery and heroism of our soldier engineers The Royal Engineers Museum is Kent's only designated museum of national and international importance. It provides a fascinating insight into the debt owed by Britain to its soldier engineers from the earliest times to the present day. With 26 galleries and 6,000 exhibits, the museum tells a fascinating story. The First and Second World War galleries give visitors a feel for life during the more gruelling parts of the 20th century. They depict the grim reality of life in the First World War trenches, the glaring beams of Second World War searchlights and offer a glimpse of a Medway family home under the threat of invasion in 1940. Displays include 55-ton tanks, a Harrier ground attack aircraft, torpedoes, bridges, models, railway locomotives, weapons, uniforms, a variety of medals (including 25 Victoria Crosses) and the very map used by the Duke of Wellington during the battle of Waterloo. The museum also has an extensive library of military history.

Royal Engineers Museum

Guildhall Museum

The Guildhall Museum provides an exciting insight into the past history of the Medway Towns from pre-historic times to the 20th Century. Lots of authentic objects, colourful informative displays and interactive exhibits set in two fine historic buildings make a visit fun, enjoyable and educational.?The Medway Napoleonic Hulks exhibit at the heart of the Guildhall is hugely popular with visitors of all ages. Interpretive material relating to this exhibit is provided in English and French. A new Charles Dickens Discovery Room and associated Audio Visual Theatre are planned for early 2006.?A range of temporary exhibitions complement the permanent displays and family-friendly events and special activities are held during the school holidays. For schools and other community groups the Museum operates an Education Service.?

Guildhall Museum

Rochester Cathedral

Rochester Cathedral is England's second oldest, having been founded in 604AD by Bishop Justus. The present building dates back to the work of the French monk, Gundulf, in 1080. The glorious Norman architecture of the nave, parts of the crypt, as well as one of the finest Romanesque facades in England, make this an inspirational place to visit. The Cathedral is blessed with some fine examples of later Gothic styles as well as the magnificent 14th century Chapter Library door. Hidden from view (although it can be viewed by special appointment) is one of the oldest doors in England
